Reel receives a grant of 5 million DKK from Elforsk to develop the flexibility solution HELIOS, with the goal of improving solar assets combined with energy storage technologies. Our electricity supply is increasingly reliant on intermittent renewable energy sources making the efficient operation and storage of renewable energy an essential cornerstone in the energy transition.

Reel has received a grant of 5 million DKK from Elforsk to develop the flexibility platform HELIOS, with the goal of increasing the efficiency of new solar parks and reducing Denmark's reliance on fossil energy sources.

Decarbonizing electricity systems obviously requires more renewable energy, but it also requires that renewable energy sources become more available, when we need it. In Denmark, renewable energy is primarily available when the wind blows and the sun shines - but to decouple our energy consumption from fossil fuels, we need to access these renewable resources regardless of the weather. This means improving our ability to store excess solar energy and dispatch it when needed, stabilising the electricity grid during peak consumption hours.

With the HELIOS project, we are developing a digital solution that integrates energy storage with forecasting, optimization and management of solar systems. This way, we can store excess solar energy production and dispatch it when we need it most - benefiting the climate, electricity grid and energy producers and consumers.

- Maria Flora Andersen, Head of Partnerships

The project is carried out in a strategic collaboration with ECNergy, Energicenter Nord and Twig energy.
